You can’t argue that Yamashiro is probably one of the most beautiful restaurants in all of LA. Yamashiro means “Mountain Palace” in Japanese. It’s full of rich history. It was the dream of the Bernheimer brothers in 1911 to build a hilltop mansion 250 feet above Hollywood Boulevard. Today you can still see the 600-year-old pagoda which was brought from Japan and set beside a lake which once housed rare black Australian swans and is now converted into a swimming pool for the Magic Castle Apartments.
Every Wednesday through July 23rd enjoy a free movie night in the skyview lounge. The movie is shown on a high def projector at 6pm and 9pm. Order one of their stiff mai thais or some chilled sake, order my favorite roll, the Darth Vader Roll and you have yourself an amazing summer evening. This Wednesday June 25th, enjoy the Paul Newman and Robert Redford 1973 classic The Sting. Other upcoming movies include Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Producers, and… natch, The Last Samurai.
Yamashiro is at 1999 N. Sycamore Avenue. Valet parking is available, and pretty much your only option.
