Direct from my hometown, the first annual Whittier Film Festival debuts on March 7th and 8th. Showcasing a lot of great indie films like El Muerto (based on the comic series El Muerto:The Aztec Zombie by Javier Hernandez) and Bella (Winner of the Toronto Film Festival peoples choice award.) Festival passes are only $25, single screening passes are $5 and 3 screening passes are $12.
There is an awards show at Sage Restaurant and Lounge in Whittier 7:00 pm on the 8th. Admission to the ceremony is $20 and includes dinner. After party admission is $4.
From the website:
“Our goal is to establish a respected film festival based in the Uptown Whittier area, which would become an annual celebration each spring. The Festival’s mission is to foster community development and promote culture and the arts.
The films are not only intended to entertain, but more importantly, to educate and encourage active participation and creativity in our community.
Filmmakers from a variety of experience and talents are encouraged to submit their films. Films selected to be screened during the festival will be judged by a panel of filmmakers and industry representatives. Awards from a number of categories will be given to the films that display excellence in a variety of fields.”
