Monkeying around in Gibraltar

Welcome to the Rock! No, not that rock in San Fran, Gibraltar. You know, that iconic rock that’s the logo for some big insurance company. A unique city under British rule, sandwiched between Spain and Africa, famous for it’s state of the art defense system and Barbary Monkeys.

Our first stop is some lunch at All’s Well. A pub decorated with curious British Navy knick knacks and located in the historic Casemates Square. We had originally stopped in to try the supposedly “famous” Gibraltar John Collins that I heard about on Three Sheets (see the video below). When I asked the waitress about it she looked at me like I was some sort of dumb tourist, so I settled on a London’s Pride ESB and your standard British meat and ale pie.

We explored the city a little, it’s not a huge town and can be explored in just a couple of hours by tour bus or via a gondola ride up to the top of the mountain. We checked out St Micheal’s Cave which was used during WWII as a hospital. It’s now used as a concert hall. The rock was also crawling with monkeys. They’re not really sure how they got there, but it’s believed if they ever leave the island the British will lose control of it.

And yes, we stopped by Burger King for a beer and a burger. Check out this episode of Three Sheets Gibraltar for all sorts of shenanigans and some great footage of the rock.
