Ian Blackburn is the resident wino on Indie 103.1. He’s on the morning show every Wed dishing out knowledge on wine and fermented grapes, the process of turning grapes to wine. See you’re learning already. He’s also got his own website called LearnAboutWine.com where he recommends wines, talks about wine parings and proper wine speakage. He also hosts several wine tasting events throughout the month and they are worth checking out. Every first Friday of the month check out Taste. This Friday’s event at HD Buttercup in Culver City features wines from Spain and France. Food is gourmet cheeses by the Beverly Hills Cheese Store plus Spanish tapas and French crepes. Price is $60 (bring along a friend for only $20 more.)
He also features wine seminars from his loft in Downtown. This is more of a learning environment, while Taste is more of a social event. This Sunday learn about cult wines. Next Sunday on the menu, ports. Yummy. Cost varies depending on the wines, but is generally $50-$80. I know you’re probably thinking, holy shit, that’s a lot of money to go taste wine in a loft downtown. But when you consider a glass of wine will cost you 10-15 bucks in a restaurant and after 4 glasses or so you don’t learn anything other than the wine makes you horny, then it might be time to get schooled.
Check out the full calendar of events for more info.
