Burger Thursday at Larchmont Grill

Food, Mid-City/Fairfax

I went by Larchmont Grill for the first time last night. I wanted to try their special burger night, so this was a great night to check it out. I loved the feeling I got of the place as soon as I walked in. It sort of reminded me of going to someone’s dinner party at their house. The warm candles lit the porch outside, with comfy chairs to sit in while you waited for the rest of the party. The staff was very friendly, the inside was warm and cozy as well.

Dina and I were seated immediately, the restaurant less than half full. (It quickly filled up as the night went on.) Mostly an older crowd. A small group of silver haired ladies sat next to us downing wine and champagne. One of them asked the other, are you ok to drive? She replied, I think so. It felt like it was something out of an episode of The Real Housewives of OC.

They bring a special burger menu along with the regular menu. But we quickly push the regular menu to the side and start to inspect all the burger choices, eight in all. There is the Basic Burger, Deluxe, Southwest, Caesar, BBQ Bacon, Mushroom and Swiss, Patty Melt, and Just Veggies. You can make a guess at what’s on each one.

I ordered the BBQ Bacon Burger, medium rare. It was cooked perfectly and there was a little more flavor in this burger. It came with sauce, crispy onions, and bacon on a sesame bun. I didn’t notice any bacon on it and had them bring me some on the side. It could have used a little more sauce too, but I neglected to ask for more. The fries look golden and crispy in the picture. They were a little soggy, but still have good flavor.

Dina ordered the Southwest Burger. It came topped with monterey jack, avocado, shredded lettuce, and spicy chipotle sauce on top of a sesame bun. Overall it was OK. The avocados were not ripe though and the overall flavor of the meat was a little bland.

For desert we ordered the Chocolate Flourless Cake. It was good, but would have been better if it was warm and not room tempature.

There was a decent selection of California wines from mostly small to medium production wineries. The regular menu looked delicious and I will definitively be going back to try that. I just don’t know if I would run there for another burger. The Pub Burger at the Village Idiot is currently my favorite restaurant burger. It’s hard to beat that.

You HAVE TO try Red Pearl Kitchen. SO good. The Strawberry-Cinnamon Ribs and Short Rib, Pumpkin, Massaman Curry… INCREDIBLE. I can’t believe you haven’t been and blogged about it yet.
