Yesterday The Daily Dish posted a little scoop that Nancy Silverton (of Mozza and La Brea Bakery) and Amy Pressman (former owner of Old Town Bakery in Pasadena) were guest chefing at Canele last night. They served up a little burger preview of their soon-to-be joint called Grass Burger that they hope to open in the coming months at the Farmers Market on Fairfax.
The tasting menu consisted of Weiser Farms melon salad with Cowgirl cottage cheese, topped with little a mint and olive oil. The burgers were nothing short of amazing. Perfectly charred patties of Sonoma grass-fed beef burgers topped with either, bacon, fried egg and frisee or cheddar and pickled green tomatoes. For dessert, candied fig with milk-chocolate-bourbon ice cream and praline cookies.
The Farmer’s Market is lacking a good burger joint (sorry JR’s, your burgers are just barely passable). If last nights meal is any indication of what we have to look forward to, I will be the first in line when Grass Burger opens up. The question remains, when will that actually be?

The burger came sans top bun, presumable to preserve the appearence of the egg topped burger.

The “he said, she said” battle of the interweb continues. I first saw the news on Blackburn and Sweetzer linking to the Daily Dish. A day later, EaterLA picked up the story and reported the same thing.
Now LA Weekly has chimed in and according to them and Carolynn Carreno, co-writer of a couple of Silverton cookbooks, she says it’s absolutely not true. And that it’s solely Pressman opening up the joint.

Regardless, the burger is amazing and I can’t wait to have it again. But really Nancy… you’ve never been on the internet? Now that I don’t believe.
