Checked out Cedd Moses’ new bar, Seven Grand, last night in downtown and I’m in love. Seven Grand is like your dad’s hunting den, with dark lighting, wood paneling, leather seating, a pool table, and stuffed animal heads adorning the walls. With over 120 different kinds of whiskey, this is a whiskey lovers paradise. Moses is also responsible for the Golden Gopher and Broadway Bar.

We tried several whiskey’s last night over a few games of pool. My favorite was probably the Basil Hayden 8yr. It’s got a nice dry finish. Easy for me, because I don’t drink a lot of whiskey straight up, unless it’s a shot of jack. But with the help of Seven Grand, I hope to improve on that.
The service was great, plenty of bartenders on a slow night. But I assume on Friday and Saturday nights, that place will be packed. Especially with the smoking patio outside.
This from Downtown News:
Named for the intersection of Seventh Street and Grand Avenue, the bar is housed in a building that was once home to a Brock’s Jewelry shop and, after that, Clifton’s Silver Spoon Cafeteria. Remnants of both have been incorporated into the bar’s design: The old jewelry cases now highlight some of the whiskeys, and the Clifton’s taxidermy aesthetic is apparent throughout. It was a motif bolstered by Moses and his 213 Ventures colleague Ricki Kline’s “whiskey scouting” trips to Kentucky, Tennessee, Scotland and Ireland. In the latter, time spent at the taxidermy-heavy Stag’s Head, supposedly a hangout for author James Joyce, was a particular inspiration.
