City Beat

Saturday
Check out a great night music at The Smell in downtown. Including the Nintendo “NES” cover band the Miniboses, along with New Wave Indie rockers Totally Radd!! Also taking the stage, Fatigo and Bossk. Cost and start time… unknown. Probably 10 bucks and 9pm.

If music ain’t your bag, then head over to the Artwalk 2008 presented by LACMA Muse. From 12-8pm, experience more than forty art galleries and exhibition spaces in the mid-Wilshire area through a self-guided tour. Free Holly Trolley shuttle service available to ArtWalk participants, compliments of Councilmen Tom LaBonge & Jack Weiss.

Saturday & Sunday

A tribute to the tasty fruit that wears its seeds on the outside, the 25th Annual California Strawberry Festival gets underway May 17 and 18, 2008 at Strawberry Meadows of College Park in Oxnard. With live musical entertainment, over 300 Arts & Crafts, 50 food booths with yummy berry favorites, including my favorite, strawberry beer. Admission is $12.

Sunday
Finally, let it be decided, who has the best cupcakes in LA. That’s what they are set to discover at the first ever Drink:Eat:Play Cupcake Challenge on Sunday, May 18th. Sample and judge cupcakes from places like Lucky Devils, Lark, My Little Cupcake, Hotcakes and more. K&L wine will be on hand to keep your parched, although icing covered, lips moist. Price is 60 bones, not cheap, but included with entrance, are tastings and free flowing wine. Tickets can be purchased here.
