What better way to celebrate my 100th Yelp review than to write about the city that I love, live, laugh and cry with. I was going to do a list of 100 things I love about LA. But I decided to condense it and do a top ten list to the power of 10. So here it goes:
Dear Los Angeles,
10 things I love about you to the 10th degree.
10. Studios
Like it or not, this is Tinseltown. You can’t throw stick without hitting someone who’s in the biz. But I love movies, and we’re smack dab in the middle of movie making magic. Walk down the center of the Warner Bros lot, drive by the Paramount Studios gate and I feel all giddy.
9. Disneyland
That’s right, I love Disneyland. I have many special memories from here that I hold very close to my heart.
8. Huell Hauser
This guy loves Los Angeles (and California in general) more than you and I and about 1,000,000 other people combined. I can watch Heull’s interviews and travelogues about LA and California for hours. As far as I’m concerned there isn’t enough Huell in our world or on TV.
7. Olvera St
Take the Red Line to Union Station and embark on a journey that takes you back to 1939. Explore a city landmark, grub on the most delicious taquitos in LA, enjoy live mariachi music, snack on fresh made churros, shop for leather goods and toys and escape your stressful life by spending a relaxing afternoon around Olvera St.
6. Beach/Dessert/Mountains
Where else can you snowboard or hike during the morning and then have drinks on the beach in the evening? I love to do both. Or spend the weekend in Joshua Tree, Palm Springs or Death Valley. It’s more than just rock and dry dirt, they are actually quite beautiful places.
5. Weather
What can you say about the weather here? It seems as if it’s 72 degrees and sunny most of the time. With occasional rainy weeks and super hot days, we have the best weather in the nation.
4. People/Culture
With so many people here and from all walks of life, the city is rich with culture. Take some time to explore the different communities and you’ll see what I mean.
3. Downtown
I love the feeling I get when I go downtown. The Staples Center and surrounding areas are booming, loft living, bars, restaurants, Grand Central Market, the heart of LA is beating again…
2. Dodgers
Say what you will about the current state of baseball, but my favorite months of the year are April-Sept (and hopefully Oct) for one reason. Dodger stadium, dodger dogs, peanuts, and booing the SF Giants are all rights of passage for any Los Angelian
And the number one thing I love about LA is… obviously
1. Food
You can get anything you want in Los Angeles, any type of food, from all corners of the world. You can have amazing food for 5 bucks or 100 bucks. Tacos at 2am, fried chicken and waffles for breakfast, ramen noodles, pad thai, egg rolls, BBQ, soul food, pizza, steaks, and the best burgers are right here. My nickname even comes from a taco stand. I love the foodie culture in Los Angeles. If I could, I would try a different place for lunch and dinner every day, 7 days a week. You could and you probably wouldn’t eat at the same place twice for at least 20 years. Hey, wouldn’t that be a good TV show? Give me an eating job on TV! Which brings me back to number 10…
Love,
Mattyshack
