That’s so LA

More like, That’s so Lame. The LA Times is reporting that “city officials launched an advertising campaign to attract visitors, targeting in-state residents”, encouraging locals to explore the city. The ads will “showcase L.A. landmarks from the city’s beaches to the Universal Studios lot to Simon Rodia’s Watts Towers.” Universal Studios? What’s that? “That’s so LA” sounds like a negative connotation, depending on how you spin it, don’t you think?

Anywho, you can get in on the fun too. Residents can submit their own ads for a chance to win prizes that include in-city getaways (hotel room, tickets to events, spending cash, etc). Create your own print ad by submitting a JPG with a clever one liner. You can also submit your own 30 second Video spot of your take of “That’s so LA”. I’d like to see some really great underground-esq videos and not shinny happy people featured at Universal, Venice Beach, and Hollywood and Highland. There is so much more to this city than the tourist traps.

L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa stressed that a fresh approach was needed during the economic slow down, even though the past three years set records for tourism in LA. Submissions and guidelines can be found here. Good luck! Let us know if you submit a video or post card so we can post them here. Email your submissions to matt @ diglounge.net
