If you don’t know who Miranda July is, go to Rocket Video (or add it to the top of your Netflix cue) and rent Me and You and Everyone We Know. One of my top fav movies from the past year or so. Miranda July is a writer/director/artist. She’s smart, beautiful, witty and very talented. She’s at it again with her colbrative art project called The Thing. Not to mention her web site promoting her new book, No one belongs here more than you, is just about the most refreshing use of a web site I have seen in a very long time. I felt like I was in her kitchen talking about the book with her.
I don’t know if it’s too late to hop on the band wagon and get a piece of art from her, but the whole project sounds amazing. From the website:
In subscribing to THE THING you will receive a quarterly mail order art project where artists, writers, musicians, and filmmakers (sometimes all in one person) will be invited to create a household object that somehow incorporates text. It will be hand wrapped in brown paper packaging by the editors (Jonn Herschend and Will Rogan) and mailed to your house with the help of the United States Postal Service.
