Dig Weekend Guide – Labor Day Weekend

It’s time for a staycation. That’s a vacation where you stick around town and explore something local. Dig Lounge is your personal staycation planner for this lovely Labor Day Weekend. Long Beach does it up right with a Hula Festival, Crab Festival, and Blues Festival all wrapped up into one weekend. Get out of town for the day and check out the Microbrew Fest and Devo concert in Del Mar, race against a million other people around the world at the Nike+ Human Race, and enjoy a Jazz Festival with BBQ and wine in Hollywood.

Aug 29-31 – E Hula Mau 2008 (12pm-12am Fri, 8am-12am Sat & Sun)
Long Beach
The Fourteenth Annual E Hula Mau will be at the Terrace Theater of the Long Beach Convention Center. Other associated events include the Mahalo Bash and the Kanikapila Jam. Enjoy Hawaiian music till midnight at The Westin Long Beach Hotel, Hawaiian Arts & Crafts Fair/Workshops at the convention center and live music all weekend.

Aug 30 – Microbrew Festival and Devo Concert at Del Mar Race Track (12pm)

Enjoy more than 20 breweries with over 50 different brands as they pour frosty samples of their finest creations in the infield Pacific Pavilion beginning at Noon. Then enjoy live horse racing at 2pm. At 7pm whip it good with a live Devo concert. Admission is only $6. Some of the beer selections available are Green Flash, Ballast Point, Full Sail, Newcastle, Red Tail, Firestone, Full Sail, Pyramid, Alaskan, Sam Adams, Firehouse, Pizza Port, Stone and many more. Aug 30 – Long Beach Crab festival (10am-8pm)
Queen Mary, Long Beach
Enjoy lots of crab, cooking demonstrations, comedians, food, craft vendors, and mediocre rock cover bands at the Long Beach Crab Festival next to the Queen Mary. $12 for admission to the festival, $21 for admission to the festival and the Queen Mary. Tickets can be purchased here. A limited number of half price tickets are available here.

Aug 30-31 – Long Beach Blues Festival (2pm-10pm Sat, 2pm-8pm Sun)
Rainbow Lagoon Park, Long Beach
Stroll the tree-lined lawns of the Rainbow Lagoon Park, directly across from the Long Beach Marina and feel the cool breezes of the Pacific at the Long Beach Blues Festival. Bring a chair, blanket and some sunscreen and mellow out to music by Chuck Berry, Taj Mahal Trio, Booker T. Jones, John Mayall, Pinetop Perkins and many more. Bring your own food, or purchase some from the vendors. Admission is $45 each day, or $75 for both days. Buy your tickets here.

Aug 31 – Nike+ The Human Race 10K (8:31pm)
Downtown Los Angeles
Be part of a million runners participating in this global 10K event taking place in 25 cities around the world (along with “virtual runners” in other cities). Your participation will also help out one of three great charities, Lance Armstrong “Livestrong” Foundation, UN Refugee Agency or the World Wildlife Fund. Participants will enjoy music by Kanye West. Entrance fee is $35.

Sept 1 – Angel City Jazz Festival (11am-10:30pm)
Barnsdale Art Park, Los Angeles
Angel City Jazz Festival is an event featuring some of the most innovative jazz musicians from around the country and beyond. Listen to jazz as you chow down on gourmet BBQ food and pour down some draft beer and wines. Presale tickets are $25 and tickets at the door are $35.

Now – Aug31 – Free Jack in the Box
