Dig Weekend Guide - June 20-22

It’s gonna be a warm weekend with temps in low 90’s. I don’t want to hear you say there is nothing to do. With lots of great movie screenings, beer and wine drinking, art festivals, city tours, shopping and eating, the problem is gonna be which things you want to do the most. Well, I can’t tell you what to do, I can only give you options. The following will occur between Friday at 5pm and Sunday at 1:30 am. You got much to do, get to gettin’.

Friday

Fuck is one of the English language’s most diverse words. Director Brian De Palma and his cast of vigilant Cubans uses the word 226 times in Scarface. On Friday join the LA Film Festival’s presentation of Swear Along Scarface at the John Anson Ford Theater. Starting at 8:30 PM cuss along under the stars with a “few of your little friends”. Stop by Kyoto Grand Hotel for Beerfest on Friday from 5-10pm and refresh yourself in a beautifully-lush atmosphere as you enjoy cool beverages and good times on their rooftop Japanese garden. Sample authentic German, Japanese and American beers as you enjoy some live entertainment. For more info and directions click here.

Wines of California at Wine Styles on Friday. Enjoy wines from California wineries like Brassfield, Silver Creek, San Simeon, Silver, and Donati. Plus, snack on cheeses and breads all for $15. IPA Festival at Lucky Baldwin’s
through Sunday. In addition to Lucky Baldwin’s 63 beers they already have on tap, they’ll have a large selection of IPAs and Double IPAs for your swigging pleasure. Buy your first pint for $7 and keep the glass, and get re-fills for $4 or $5 for Double IPAs. For more info click here.

Saturday

Arts Festival returns to Downtown Burbank June 21 and 22. Make it a weekend of great art, music & food at the Downtown Burbank Fine Arts Festival, one of largest open-air art markets in the region. For two days, Saturday and Sunday, June 21 and 22, Downtown Burbank streets will be filled with more than 100 award-winning artists selling original works and demonstrating their craft. The show spans three blocks of San Fernando Boulevard from Magnolia to Olive in Downtown Burbank. Festival hours on Saturday, June 21 are 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. Sunday, June 22 hours are 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. The show is free and open to the public.

‘Ride the Rails’: History, Architecture, & Hollywood Lore in Downtown L.A.
A fantastic bicycle journey of the most landmark rail and trolley lines throughout Downtown Los Angeles is traveling your way on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 9:45am. Bicyclists of all ages and skill levels are invited to join this leisurely paced ride as we tour legendary locations in both Hollywood films and history books. More info here.

On Saturday the LA Film Festival presents Cinematic Titanic. Comedian and MST3K’s creator Joel Hodgson and fellow Satellite of Love alums Trace Beaulieu, J. Elvis Weinstein, Frank Conniff, and Mary Jo Pehl have joined together once again. In this new comedic venture, the five let loose with a rapid-fire running commentary of wisecracks, jokes, and non-sequiturs aimed at the screen and each other. For this special live performance, the Cinematic Titanic crew will skewer Roger Corman’s 1959 non-classic The Wasp Woman. Price is only $12, movie starts at 8:30. Get your tickets here.

California School of Culinary Arts will host a cooking class, “Burgers with a Twist,” on June 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chef instructors will teach students how to add sizzle to their backyard barbeque. Students will learn how to select the right cut of meat, make gourmet condiments and mouthwatering burgers. Cell 626-683-1354 for reservations.

Take a ride on the Real Black Dahlia bus tour with special guest Denise Hamilton this Saturday from 12-4pm. The tour is approximately 4 hours, and will we return in time for riders to take high tea in the Rendezvous Court (the Olive Street Lobby where Beth Short spent some the last known hours of her life). The Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills

On Saturday from 12-4pm enjoy a full day of fun at Greystone with Pink’s hot dog; a Greystone mansion tour, Greystone historic display, historic fire engine display, canine demonstrations, music, face painting, balloons, and marketplace. Admission is $15, click here for more info.

On Saturday and Sunday check out the Hollywood Roadshow. It’s the worlds largest prop and pinball auction. Items like Bram Stokers Dracula Pinball Machine, Star Wars movie props, a Lords of Dogtown Stacy Peralta Graffiti Surfboard, and tons more. All items start at $50. Sunday

At the Five Year Old Party on Sunday sample some of LA’s best gourmet comfort food.Think mac n’ cheese and kobe beef sloppy joes. You $60 admission price gets free flowing wine all night too. Takes place from 2pm-5pm at Boulevard 3. Tickets can be purchased here.
