Join Arnie Morton’s as they celebrate this distinctively American spirit. Taste a variety of select bourbons and listen as a whiskey expert takes you on a fascinating journey from the barrel to the bottle. July 19 – Glow (7pm-7am)
Santa Monica, CA
Check out the multimedia art show ‘Glow‘ at the Santa Monica Pier. Artists were commissioned to create unique and inviting works of art that welcome the public to be both audience and actor for twelve celebratory hours. Inspired by the wildly successful Nuit Blanche in Paris, Glow takes its spirit from the fabled grunion that live in local waters and come ashore several times a year to spawn in the sand creating a momentary sensation of iridescence. Entertainment all night featuring Shine, Ferris Wheel Orchestra, DJ Garth Trinidad, Albert Ortega, DJ Raul Campos, and more. Possible grunion run sightings begin at 10:30. Admission is free.
July 19-20 – LA Animal Shelter Adopt-a-thon (Sat 8am-5pm, Sun 11am-5pm)

In response to the extraordinary influx of animals in the city’s animal care shelters, LA Animal Services is holding a special Adopt-A-Thon this weekend. All adoption fees have been lowered by 60%. Cat fees are now $28 and dog fees are $43. Fees cover vaccinations, spay/neuter, micro-shipping, and a one year license. Shelter locations include North Central, South LA, West LA, East Valley, Harbor, and West Valley Animal Care Centers.
July 19 – The 13th running of the Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals (6pm-?)
Los Alamitos, CA
The first Wienerschnitzel Wiener National race is set for 6:15 p.m. with the live horse-racing program set to begin at 7:00 p.m. The Wiener Nationals Championship race will be held at approximately 9:30 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. The Care Center is a non-profit group dedicated to finding home for stray animals in the Orange County area. You can’t bet on the wiener races, but that doesn’t mean a side bet with your friends isn’t out of the question. Admission is $3, parking is free.
July 19 – Extravaganza for the Senses, a Wine House event (7pm-10pm)

Taking place on the Century Fox Lot, join The Saban Free Clinic and Wine House while Scott Silva provides the soundtrack as you mingle beneath the stars. You’ll enjoy samples from more than 100 wineries and food from 40 of L.A.’s hottest restaurants. In addition, mystics and henna tattoo artists will be on hand for your entertainment.
