Food Coma Aftermath: LA Magazine The Food Event

LA Magazine transformed Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu this past weekend into a food and wine lovers paradise. The Los Angeles Magazine Food Event: From the Vine, sponsored by Cadillac, featured more than enough food to eat, wine to drink, cooking demos, food panels, and mariachi music to please the ears. It was unfortunate that the event was only 3 hours long because before you knew it, the clouds moved in, the drizzle started, and just like that it was over. But not before we got to sample some really great wines and delectable bites. All while watching Chef Rory Herrmann from Bouchon take simple veggies cooked three different ways along with a hunk of shortrib and turn it into a beautiful and delicious dish.

Other presentations from the day included Chef Laurent Quenioux of Bistro LQ, Julian Cox of Rivera, Phillipe Chow, and Mark Gold from Eva. Talk about your powerhouse of the cities best chefs and bartenders. Panels for the day featured some of the cities best brew masters and chefs, talking about beer, meat, cheese, and LA food culture. This event was a food lovers delight. A huge success despite how quickly the day passed.

Favorites from the day included wines from Jaffe Estate, Veedercrest, Qupe, and J&J . We noshed on some tacos from Malo (Downtown location opening in one month!) and fried cheese sliders from Coast Restaurant and Bar. Of course no event would be complete without shortrib, and Noir Food & Wine delivered with an excellent short rib served over Parmesan polenta. Unfortunately, we spent so much time enjoying the food demos and panels while drinking wine, we didn’t get to try a lot of the food offerings. Some had even packed up 30 minutes before the event was officially over! Which seems to a regular happening at these type of events. Regardless, it goes on our list as a must attend event. It’s well organized, and the grounds are just breathtaking.

Excellent wines from Jaffe Estate and majestic peaks of Saddlerock made for a great afternoon of food and wine.

No event is complete nowadays without the requisite food truck, here we have the Rosa's Bella Cucina truck, along with those pickle and beef tacos from Malo.

Chef Rory cooks up a favorite from Bouchon, braised shortrib with veggies cooked three ways.

Sliders and flat bread pizza from Coast Restaurant and Bar made a good pairing with wines from J&J Cellars.

Wine maker Gavin Chanin with his amazing Grenache, along with brand new wines from Millesime and an Argentinian Malbec from Solstice.

Panels for the day included a Cheese pairing demo with Andrew Steiner of Andrew's Cheese Shop and Ian Blackburn from Learn About Wine, and Feniger, Armstrong, Peel and other chefs discuss food culture in LA.

Thanks for the amazing day of food and wine LA magazine!

Despite the drizzle, this was the Cadillac of food events.
