Full service cocktails and bites at Murph’s in Sherman Oaks

murphs-mainThe Valley has a new cocktail joint to call it’s own. Once Mad Bull Tavern, now transformed into a kitsch service station called Murph’s. Richard DiSisto (Tipple & Brine, Tunnel Bar) has created quite the foodie and booze destination in his new Ventura Blvd spot. Tom LaBonge even stopped by to officially declare the opening. It was just a preview night for friends and media, but we sampled delicious gastropub themed dishes from Chef Mike Williams. Including cheddar biscuits with pimento cheese, salty potato puffs, spicy fried chicken, sliders, and braised bacon lettuce cups.

The charcuterie was very well executed and worth returning just for that alone. From fatty pork loin sliced so thin it melts in your mouth, a selection of silky pâté, to pork rillette, and a whole confit pig.

A few beers on tap and by the bottle of course and a small selection of wine is available. The cocktails situation run by Christopher Day (Honeycut, Tipple & Brine) is just as promising as the food. All well balanced, so we tried several of course. Like the Oil Change with Bonded Bourbon, ginger, honey and fresh lemon. The River Tam with Olmeca Altos Blanco Tequila, Habanero Syrup, Ginger, Lime, and Soda. Or their own twist on the classic Chocolate Cake Shot, called The Cake is a Lie, with Vodka, Creme de Cacao, Fresh Lemon, and Almond Syrup.

No word on a web site or phone number yet, but Murph’s opens on Monday to the general public, and we’ll be back first chance we get!
