A Blu burger for National Burger Day

Happy National Hamburger Day. Today’s burger is from Blu LA Cafe, winner of Downtown News’ best burger in 2009. This was one meat on a bun we hadn’t sunken our teeth into yet. So this past weekend, when Amgen had tied up the streets of downtown and there was no getting in or out, we took a stroll over to this quaint cafe located in the Pacific Electric Lofts at 6th and Main.

We grabbed a seat on the patio and tried their signature burger; a 1/2 pound angus beef patty, topped with tangy Roquefort cheese and two slices of crisp bacon, placed on a fresh baked brioche bun that’s slathered with a garlic mayo. There is a burst of flavor in your mouth with every bite. It only could have been better if it hadn’t been cooked so well done, so make sure you specify how you want it. Served with a side of skin on crispy fries, this burger really stands out as being one of the best in downtown LA. But don’t stop there, indulge on one of their delicious desserts too, cookies, brownies, cakes, or a heaping of fried bananas a la mode.

I love their burger and their breakfast, but I hate that you can only go when you’ve got some serious time on your hands. Everything takes forever!

Maybe we caught them at a good moment, it didn’t take too long for our food. Maybe even less time if we had ordered it medium rare ;)
