Celebrating National Burger Month at Hole in the Wall

Ladies and gentlemen, start your stomachs. May is National Burger Month and here at Dig Lounge were starting off with a fairly new burger joint, at just under a year old, that earns the award for most difficult to find, and possibly the longest name honorable mention. Hole in the Wall Burger Joint located in West LA, on Santa Monica Blvd, behind a Winchell’s, and can only be accessed off of the adjoining side street, Bentley Ave. The outside seating area is just as large as the kitchen inside, and it’s burger ordering process is of the build-your-own variety.

At Hole in the Wall, their attention to hand made ingredients are apparent. From the house made ketchup sitting at every table, to the house made pickles, hand cut fries, and variety of flavored mayos. Their fresh rolls are baked locally, their Angus beef, custom ground and never frozen.

Select from beef, turkey or veggie patties, then choose the chariot on to which your creation will arrive… pretzel, whole wheat, or plain bun. You can also order it as a bowl for you carb conscious dieters out there. Choose from a variety of home made spreads like chipotle, cranberry, or a zesty onion mayo. Then pick a cheese, and other various toppings, which include everything from house made zucchini pickles to a fried egg. Their hand cut fries, are simple, yet crispy and delicious and can be ordered regular or of the sweet potato variety.

The burgers, once assembled correctly on our second try with the cook, are very good. The beef fresh and lightly seasoned. Charred nicely on the grill, slightly pink inside, although can be ordered medium rare or well done on request. An 8oz burger starts at 7.95, some toppings run an additional $1 per. The tasty fries are a deal at $2.

Speaking of deals, they offer weekly specials. On Monday get a can of free soda, Tuesday 1/2 off fries, Wednesday free ice tea, Thursday a free cookie, and on Friday a free $1 topping. You can even order online, and pick your order up ten minutes later. The staff was friendly, and seemed to know many of the locals stopping in for burgers.

Stay tuned to Dig Lounge this week for more National Burger Month goodies as we’ll be hitting up a new burger joint every week, finishing up with round two of another Burger Marathon.
