Perfect pairing at Victors Restaurant

Victors is one of those timeless Hollywood restaurants that has remained unchanged over the years. Classic Hollywood, a neighborhood favorite, featuring deli favorites like pastrami and corned beef, meatloaf as good as your moms, and Matzo Ball soup. Owner Bill Gotti is a veteran when it comes to pairing wines with food, with over 30 years of experience under his belt. Including time as the former wine manager for Greenblatt’s on Sunset.

Bill has partnered with Joel Fisher for Wine Dine & Vine, specializing in wine and food pairing events. Joel knows his wine too. He is a wine columnist for the Culinary Connection of the Chefs de Cuisine Association of California and instructor of wine for the Culinary Program of the Art Institute of California-Los Angeles.

Their latest event at the restaurant featured a choice of beef burger with blue cheese, lamb with goat cheese, turkey with Muenster, or veggie with cheddar. They paired the wines with over 20 different selections from Paso Robles. Wineries featured included Edward Sellers, Derby, Grizzly Republic, B & E, and Vines on the Marycrest.

With every couple of wines poured, Joel and Bill discussed the differences between the wines, and the wineries they came from. All of the wines were wonderful, but already having tasted them previously, the Vines on the Marycrest stood out as a favorite and we came home with a bottle of Round Midnight and Satin Doll.

Wines from Paso included Vines on the Marycrest, Edward Sellers, and B & E.

An array of Grizzly Republic wines featuring grapes from Paso, Amador, El Dorado, and Mendocino.

A juicy and flavorful lamb burger, finished off with a mass of goat cheese.

Joel is also coordinator of the LA Wine Fest. An event featuring over 150 wineries, over 550 wines, craft beers, food and lifestyle vendors taking place at Raleigh Studios on June 5 and 6. One and two day passes are available starting at only $65. More info available here.
