Dig Weekend Guide – Feb 20-22

Isn’t everybody working for the weekend? Yes, Loverboy had it right. So get on outside before it starts raining again. Head on down to the Farmer’s Market on Friday night and kick Mardi Gras off right. Then on Saturday, just down the street at Molly Malones, are indie rock newcomers Fight From Above. And as if there hasn’t been enough chocolate floating around the office, the Belmont Shore Chocolate Festival returns to Long Beach on Saturday too. You can also help out the little doggies this weekend by pummeling your friends with a red bouncy ball, then finish it all off with Sunday Supper at one of LA’s best new restaurants, Palate Food + Wine. Bon Appetite!

Feb 20-22 & 24 – 20th Annual Mardi Gras at the Farmers Market
Los Angeles (10pm)
For 20 years the Farmers Market has hosted the best Mardi Gras celebration in town. Kick it off with DJ Todd B and his New Orleans Tunes on Friday night from 6-10:30PM on the west patio. Then all weekend enjoy a pet parade, live music, face painting, and scrumptious po-boys, gumbo, and beignets from the Gumbo Pot. Finish it off on “Fat Tuesday” Feb 24, with Eddie Bayton & The Nervis Bros from 6-8pm. It’s a family joint here, so you don’t have to show your boobs for beads.

Feb 21 – Fight From Above at Molly Malones
Los Angeles (10pm)
Playing authentic indie rock with a splash of pop, Fight From Above is a group of four longtime friends known by their loyal California fan base for energetic, powerful live performances and intelligent, catchy songwriting in the spirit of Death Cab For Cutie, The Kooks, and Cold War Kids.

Feb 21 – 5th Annual Belmont Shore Chocolate Festival
Long Beach (1-4pm)
Head on down to the Belmont Shore Chocolate Fetival for delectable chocolate treats, chocolate pie eating contest (where do I sign up?), homemade chocolate dessert contest, and live music. Some of the businesses on hand: Frosted Cupcakery, La Creperie, NY Upper Crust, Olives Gourmet Grocer, Peet’s Coffee, Powell’s Sweet Shoppe, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Sweet Jill’s, The Crepe Lady, and more.

Feb 21 – Eagle Rock Yacht Club, Dodgeball!
Los Angeles (3pm)
The Eagle Rock Yacht Club, Verdugo Bar and the Humane Society have teamed up to help bring in donations to the overflowing animal shelters in the LA area. They are in desperate need of pet food, blankets and other necessities to help these animals stay healthy until they can be placed in loving homes. Join them this Sunday at the Glassell Park Rec Center for some good ol’ Dodgeball fundraising.

Feb 22 – Palate Food + Wine Sunday Supper
Glendale (5-9pm)
Palate Food + Wine now has Sunday hours in the dining room, but only for a three-course menu at 35 bones that changes weekly. Bonus: From 12-5pm in the Wine Merchant + Tasting Bar, BYOV (bring your own vinyl) on the wheels of steel for aspiring DJs.
