Nick & Stef’s Steakhouse Meat 101
Downtown LA (8pm)
Every third Friday of the month, Nick & Stef’s Steakhouse hosts a Meat 101 class. This installment is themed “Lamb: Us vs. New Zealand.” Participants will try a variety of regional racks of lamb – and wines – from New Zealand, Colorado and Sonoma. The class takes place from 8 p.m.-9 p.m. and costs $60 per person (includes pairings, excludes tax and gratuity). Reservations are required. Please call 213-680-0330.

Art as an Appetizer

In addition to the special menu you can get at Playa and Rivera (we featured these last week), Art as an Appetizer continues at a selection of local galleries. Up first on Feb 18 is LACMA. From 11am-3pm food trucks will be posted outside the museum’s Pacific Standard Time exhibit serving up dishes inspired by the exhibit itself. Trucks participating this weekend are Aunties Fry Bread, No Tomatoes, Coolhaus, Lobsta Truck, and Kings Corner BBQ. A full listing can be found here.
Dominick’s Mardi Gras Celebration

Nosh on southern favorites like muffaletta sandwiches, jambalaya, crayfish pie, beignets and of course, the much loved king cake at Dominick’s and Little Dom’s. The Mardi Gras menu is prepared by N.O. native Chef Brandon Boudet.

You don’t have to go to New Orleans or Italy to celebrate Mardi Gras and Carnevale—Shoreline Village in Long Beach is hosting a great day of music, art, festivities and more. Dance to samba, calypso and swing music, enjoy gondola rides and watch the parade of performers and colorful characters make its way from Rainbow Harbor to Shoreline Village. Festivities begin at 1:00 pm at Rainbow Harbor.

Selection Massale is a small import company based in San Leandro, California. It is run by Cory Cartwright and Guilhaume Gerard and is focused entirely on small, traditionally made wines in very limited quantities of no more than several thousand bottles. Join domaineLA for the Sunday tasting which includes a selection of wine and foods from SQIRL and Proof Bakery. Tickets are $15 and can be had here.

The four course menu will include items like Sweet Onion Parmesan Velout, Au Gratin Spring Squash with Herbed Bread Crumbs, and Braised Beef Brisket with Crispy Shallots and Garlic, followed by a house-made dessert. Upstairs 2, located above the massive Wine House, offers a four-course dinner prepared by chef Todd Barrie every Wednesday, paired with four wines from around the world selected by sommelier Marilyn Snee. February 25 – The Beverly Hills Wine Festival is the most prestigious wine festival in all of the US. This is the only wine festival of it’s size that donates all of its proceeds to a great cause. The 3rd Annual Beverly Hills Wine Festival features the #1 Wines and spirits from around the globe. The event benefits the LA Animal Alliance, Pets to Patriots and all the LA city and Los Angeles county animal Shelters. Tickets to the Grand Tasting (3-6pm) are $150 and include a souvenir glass. February 26 – Winter ColLAboration is back on! The mobile craft beer garden (from the brains behind Tony’s Darts Away/Mohawk Bend/Golden Road Brewing, Verdugo Bar/Surly Goat, Blue Palms and 38 Degrees) will be revived in the form of a weather-proof, indoor late-winter wonderland on Sunday, February 26th at the Belasco Theater in Downtown L.A. – located conveniently near the Metro Blue Line. As previously planned, the garden will feature a selection of winter brews and favorites from Anchor Steam, Avery, Bootleggers, Bruery, Beachwood, Cismontane, Dogfish Head , Eagle Rock Brewery, Eel River, Firestone Walker, Hangar 24, Golden Road Brewing, Lost Abbey, New Belgium, Oskar Blues, Russian River, Sierra Nevada, Smog City, Stone, TAPS and many more. March 3-4 – Now in its 21st year, Temecula Valley wineries are opening their cellar doors March 3-4 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for the annual winter barrel tasting event, known as World of Wine. This two-day event, hosted by the Temecula Valley Winegrowers Association, offers passport holders a chance to sample both wine and food at 30+ wineries along the Rancho California and De Portola wine roads. The weekend passport includes wine tastings from both barrel and bottle, allowing guests to taste current releases as well as wines that are not yet available for purchase. In addition, fine food pairings are provided to ensure guests don’t go away hungry or thirsty. 2-Day Tickets: $89 Early Bird (until Feb 3); $99 thereafter. Sunday-Only Tickets: $79. March 4 – The Wine House and LA Weekly are proud to present “LA Weekly’s 4th Annual Gold Standard Food & Wine Event” featuring a selection of 40 restaurants curated by Pulitzer Prize-winning food critic Jonathan Gold. In their fourth year celebrating Los Angeles cuisine, Jonathan has welcomed back some of his tried-and-true favorites, and also invited a delicious array of new restaurant guests. As of this early release, a sample of confirmed restaurants include: Animal, A-Frame, Baco Mercat, Chego, Chichen Itza, Drago Centro, Guelaguetza, Jitlada, La Casita Mexicana, LaOn, Little Dom’s, Meals by Genet, Mo-Chica, Mozza, Palate Food + Wine, Street, Mezze, Nickel Diner, Lukshon, MB Post, Night + Market, Playa, Providence, Ramen Jinya, Salt’s Cure, Sotto, Spice Table, Starry Kitchen and Short Order, among others. March 8 – From its prestigious beginnings as a cooking demonstration with Julia Child in 1979, the Planned Parenthood Food Fare has become one of the oldest and most recognized food events in Los Angeles. This year we will be celebrating the 33rd Anniversary of Food Fare on Thursday, March 8th at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Over 150 of the city’s best restaurants, caterers, wineries, florists, vendors and entertainers will be part of the festivities. Tickets for the afternoon event are $150, the evening event will set you back $225. But it’s all for a great cause.
