While dining at Cafe Pinot you may start to think about the temps in the east coast. It brings to mind why we love living in Los Angeles so much, the weather. And with the great weather comes al fresco dining. Dining outdoors is a given right to us residents of So Cal. One of my favorite spots for dining outdoors is right here in Downtown Los Angeles. Part of the Patina Restaurant Group, Cafe Pinot has been a fixture in the downtown dining scene for many years. Situated at the foot of the historic Library Building, it’s surrounded by a beautiful garden like atmosphere and the glistening glass of high rise buildings.

The food, some of the finest in downtown, is artfully prepared by exec chef Kevin Meehan. Formally Chef de Cuisine at Patina, he brings his fine French cooking techniques and fuses them masterfully into the contemporary California menu at Cafe Pinot. We got to sample some of his great creations recently at a media dinner provided by Patina Restaurant Group. Each course was paired with an amazing wine selected by our waiter, who obviously knew his wines. Which is no surprise, Cafe Pinot is the winner of the prestigious Wine Spectator Restaurant Award.
If you must, bring your own vino. As with many of the Patina Group restaurants, they don’t charge a corkage. Bring a bottle of wine, take in the great views of the downtown skyline, and enjoy dinner in their elegant restaurant or outdoors on the patio for some of the best al fresco dining in Los Angeles. Either way, it’s an experience you won’t soon forget. It’s the perfect spot before a game at Staples or a show at Disney Concert Hall.
